Grab your script and get onstage!

With Now Playing, you can roleplay any TV show and have it actually feel like the show! Other TV show roleplaying games really just feel like a great RPG that is set in the show's world. With Now Playing, you'll actually feel like you were in the show!

Rules for Making Your Games Feel Like a TV Show

TV scriptwriters have certain formats their scripts must follow in order for them to be aired on television. Therefore, there are techniques that all scriptwriters use to create TV episodes that fit these formats.

Now Playing works some of these same techniques so that your game will follow the same formats and keep the feel of the show.

Rules-Light System Keeps the Action Fast!

Now Playing is based on the popular Fudge system that uses word-based action resolution so players don't need to do any heavy math during the game. Now Playing does not delve into the details of tactics and action, so as result, gameplay is fast and furious. When you roll the dice to attack, there is no need to look up any tables or flip through the book to look up any special rules. Any calculation required is so simple that it will feel like you just rolled the dice and told the Director the result. And even he does not need to do any more work.

Play Shows in Any Genre!

Now Playing contains a fully generic system that allows you to run any game in any genre without having to adapt or create custom game rules. You can play your favorite cop show one day, and play a sci-fi show the next, and a western after that. You never need to do anything special to run any of them. Now Playing leaves you free to work on the story!

Can Be Played Standalone, or to Add to Your Existing Games

Does your Buffy game feel too much like a normal RPG, and not enough like Buffy the show? Well, add a new dimension to the game. Now Playing's system for roleplaying TV is intentionally separate from its game system, so that you can apply it to your favorite RPG. Now, it's easy to run your D&D campaign in episodes, so that the players get to feel more of a sense of accomplishment at the end of each session.

FPI

Now Playing comes with a complete and ready-to-play mini-setting called "FPI". In this show, you get to play members of the Foundation for Paranormal Investigation, or FPI. In each episode you get to hunt ghosts, or track Bigfoot, or investigate UFO abductees.

Now Playing also comes with two ready-to-run FPI episodes, and includes a complete cast of premade characters! In Haunted Holiday, the estranged cousin of one of the cast invites him and his colleagues to their new home in Maine for a weekend visit. When they arrive at the very old Victorian home, they realize that their hosts have an ulterior motive for bringing a group of paranormal investigators to their home. In The Big Dig, something is attacking workers of an underground highway tunnel that is being built to run under part of Boston Harbor. The local police have called in the FPI to help identify and find the animal or creature responsible.

This mini-setting gives a great sneak-peak into the upcoming RPG Strange World. All characters and episodes that you have used in the FPI mini-setting will automatically work in the new product without any conversion required.
